Howard J. McGraw, CRSP

Director, Occupational Health & Safety Maple Leaf Foods Inc.

Howard’s first OHS related job was working in the Protection Department for BC Forest Products in Mackenzie, British Columbia.  The Protection Department was responsible for providing Fire, Ambulance and Security services for 3 wood mills and a pulp mill.

Howard then worked in the oil and gas industry as an Emergency Medical Technician at remote locations in Northern British Columbia.

In 1986 he joined Canada Packers Inc as Health & Safety Specialist in Lethbridge, Alberta.  In 1988 he moved to Toronto to take on the OHS Managers role at Canada Packers flagship plant.  At the time the plant employed 1700 people.

In 1994 he left Canada Packers to work with Liberty Risk Services, part of Liberty Mutual Insurance, as a Senior Technical Consultant.  In 1995 he took on the role of Manager, Loss Prevention for Liberty Risk Services.

In 1997 he returned to the food industry as Director, Occupational Health & Safety for Maple Leaf Foods Inc.  At the time Maple Leaf Foods Inc. had 8,000 employees.  Today, through a series of acquisitions Maple Leaf Foods employs 23,500 people, primarily in Canada but there are also manufacturing facilities in the USA and UK and sales offices in Mexico and Japan.

Howard was appointed to the Executive of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals in 2006 and today is Chair of the Board.

He lives in Brampton with his wife Jill.  They have two grown children Neil 22 and Erin 27.  Erin is married to James Lindsay and they reside in Kingston, Ontario
